Recovery Week

After finishing off a good hard week of training last week, we took a nice and easy recovery week this week (at least for our afternoon workouts). Our morning strength workouts have shifted a bit though. We have begun a building/peaking phase. All of our exercises have lowered in reps but we are now pushing the weight. Both Monday and Thursday mornings the team does an hour of strength in the gym.

Last Friday we had our last cross country running race of the year. It was in Sparks, Nevada on a little over 5k course.  I improved my time from last year by over 3 minutes! I was the only male who ran for our team but we had 5 women come and run to!

That Saturday, after taking the PSAT, we went on a Mountain Bike Ride around the Royal Gorge trails. It was aprox. 26 Miles with about 4,000 feet of climbing. In total it was about a two and a half hour ride!

We also conducted a Lactate testing session last week. This went very well for the whole team. We did some lactate testing earlier in the year on indoor bikes so it will be interesting to compare these results with the other. Also this time on skies we did two laps at the level 5 pace so it should be interesting to see how those compare to the other.
Me Squatting in a Strength Session

Today we did an awesome agility session. Coaches Martin and Caitlin set up a sweet course. It was about a minute and a half long. I think everyone had a lot of fun and look forward to doing more of these as we progress.

Last weekend my dad took me out to shoot the moon. It was perfect because it looked full but was not quite. This meant that it was still light out as it was rising. Here is a cool double exposure shot that I got from that evening!

Even with that giant moon, I was also able to shoot some stars. Hopefully in about a week when that big thing goes away I will be able to shoot some more stars!

October Prepping!

With ski season right around the corner we are in a prep phase now of our training. Through out the summer; our intensity workouts were planned so that we did not peak during the summer. That consisted of a lot of level 3 pacing and intensity workouts focused on stamina and technique. Now as the snow starts to fall coaches are starting us on some level 4 workouts prepping for the speed to transition onto snow. I was sick a week ago but have recovered from that and now am full swing back into workouts.

Truckee did receive a little bit of snow this week. Not nearly enough to make a 5ft snow man but it was dumping for a good hour or so at my house in town.

Today we did a nice easy level 1 distance workout. Most of the team ran the Spaulding Lake run. It was a beautiful 9 mile run along Fordyce creek.

Lately I have also been shooting a lot of landscape scenic photos around the area. The colors of the trees are definitely changing! You can tell that fall is in the air and winter is not to far out.

Lovely Lake Tahoe

Time to spend a good weekend of photographing fall and working. Life has been good here in Tahoe lately! Im definitely ready to start skiing though! West Yellowstone is only T-minus 41 days away! If we are lucky we will be able to ski on some real snow before then!
